Aloha, my name is Kayly Romero. I was born and raised in Miami, Florida. I moved to the Hawaiian Islands at the age of 13 where I learned about Hawaii’s cultural melting pot and slice of paradise. I started my college career at Leeward CC after graduating from Mililani High School in 2016. At LCC, I earned an AA in Liberal Arts with a Certificate in Business. However, creativity has always been a part of my life, through drawing as a child, making lyric videos for Youtube, or practicing photography as a teen. It seemed that pursuing a business degree meant that I would miss the creative aspects I've always loved. Everything changed after I volunteered to work with LCC's TV Production students. Through acting and the art of film production, I reconnected with my old artistic self. It was at that point that I decided to pursue a BA in Creative Media with a concentration in Communications and New Media Technologies at UH - West O'ahu.
At UHWO, I've taken multiple classes about branding, marketing, advertisement, and film. I've learned to love all aspects of Creative Media. With my degree, I have learned the technical aspects of working behind a design or video concept, while still opening opportunities for a career in social media and marketing. Thus, blending my business and creative sides together. These developing skills have helped me become a multifaceted creative that can work with video, design, social media, and marketing. With my podcast, I hope that students can learn more about internships, decide if it's right for them, and gain more self-confidence in moving forward as a Creative Media student. |
